...............................
The
service provides a volunteer sitter for 2-3 hours each week or fortnight
to enable a carer to have a short break from their caring duties. We
recognise that this is not a great deal of time but it does allow carers
to go and fetch essential shopping or simply to meet a friend for coffee
and a chat without anxiety for their loved-one. For
some, just knowing that they will be able to do this, takes some of the
pressure out of their situation. Our Carer's Service Manager visits
with the carer and cared-for person in the home and will discuss with
them what they feel they need in the way of a service to see if we can
help.
Referrals for this service can come from several sources, for example,
Social Services and GP’s. We will also consider referrals
from carers themselves. The basic requirement is that a carer must be
providing regular and substantial care for someone, who may be a parent,
partner, other relative, friend or neighbour, and who cannot safely be
left alone.
All Carers Careline volunteers are thoroughly vetted
through the taking of references and undergoing a full Criminal Records
Bureau check. They
also receive training for the job they are being asked to do.
